Every exegesis of the QurÞÁn is given to a certain methodology and a particular tendency. For instance, some are textual—based on traditions and narrations from the Prophet and the Imams, others are based on a discursive approach and rational demonstration, some embody the intra-QurÞanic way of interpreting the QurÞÁn by the QurÞÁn, while others can be described as lexical, theological, philosophical, or otherwise. In the fifteenth century hijri, the Muslim ummah was witness to the entry of an outstanding exegesis, the TasnÐm, which follows a methodology that is comprehensive, integral, and assiduously interpretive (ijtihÁdi). To explain, the methodology employed in this exegesis of the QurÞÁn is both textual (i.e. intra-QurÁnic and traditional) as well as based on reason (i.e. using rational demonstration), while including such tendencies as the properly intellectual (or cognitive), ethical, and social.
