According to Richard Taylor, the concept of "meaningfulness" is more difficult to understand than the concept of "meaninglessness". Therefore, he firstly defines the meaningless life, the best example of which is the ancient myth of Sisyphus, and then, by comparison, gives a definition of the meaningful life. He regards the meaningless life as a pointless one that nothing comes of it, nothing at all. The meaningful life, as a result, would be a life that has a point. But if the point of life is nothing but life itself and we are engaged in a repetitious activities in which we have no interest, then our lives would have no meaning. Similarly, if we achieve our goals and then we rest and enjoy the result, we would suffer infinite boredom and our lives would be meaningless. Taylor concludes that meaning of life consists in doing the activities in which our wills and interests are involved. The meaning of life is nothing but to satisfy our desires. The meaning of life, thus, originates from within us not from without.
